In partnership with the Page One Foundation, CCNA awarded a $1000 college preparation scholarship to TC Williams High School Junior, Robert Clark, a former RARE student at Hammond Middle School.

The College Prep Mentoring Scholarship is a CCNA pilot program, developed in collaboration with the Page One Foundation (a charitable organization) and the Scholarship Lady in Dallas, Texas, which offers deserving high school juniors and seniors dedicated mentoring and tutoring help with their college admissions process. The 8-month pilot program provides assistance with college applications, resumes and campus visits. “We work with students and parents every step of the way,” stated the Scholarship Lady, Educational Consultant, Valerie Gill.

Offering thanks to all, Robert Clark said: “I can’t thank CCNA enough for supporting my brother and me over the years. My time in the RARE program was special, with lots of good mentoring from the RARE Family,” adding, “I hope other young students get to participate in this great program”

Kai Williams, Page One Foundation Co-Founder, calls this “a wonderful opportunity for us to continue supporting CCNA and their great work in developing the next generations of leaders. My 16-year-old daughter is in a similar program here in Dallas and doing very well. We are pleased to donate and hopefully inspire others to join with CCNA and us to support even more students next year.”

Robert’s mother, Sheray Dempsey said “This is a great gift from CCNA. The RARE program helped shape Robert’s life. During RARE, he and his younger brother Brooklyn received excellent mentoring and tutoring from CCNA and the Hammond family. We are so grateful and continue to thank you for all you do to help our families.”

Hammond Middle School Principal Pierrette Peters expressed her thanks and admiration for CCNA’s Scholarship Program. “In addition to their tutoring and mentoring help, which is making a difference in the lives of our students and families, CCNA continues to support our students.”

The scholarship award comes with extra benefits from CCNA’s expansive network, namely dedicated mentors. “I welcome the opportunity to work with Robert and hopefully help him achieve his goals,” said Alexandria native Donald Bruce, a father of three, now living in Tacoma, Washington. Ditto from TC Williams Alum, Kevin Perry. Now a management consultant at Price Waterhouse Cooper in Charlotte, NC, he stated, “Mentors changed my life. I owe my success to a few mentors from CCNA who took the time to help me when I needed it most. This is my opportunity to give back.”

Similar sentiments from a host of others in CCNA’s mentoring network include CCNA Board Chair Herve Aitken, Esq.; Howard Jean, Enlightened Corp, Washington DC, State Farm’s Rodney Louis, Alexandria, VA, William Brown, Alexandria Lions Club, Robert Prince, HNTB, Jacksonville, FL., Paul Fentes from Alexandria Central Rotary, Ben Wilson, Esq., Chairman, Beveridge and Diamond, Washington DC, Gwendolyn Day-Fuller, CCNA Immediate Past Board Chair, and many more.

“This pilot program is a great investment in the future of our nation,” said Page One Board Chair, RET General George Bowman, Birmingham, AL. “Robert will do well, and we are committed to support him.”

CCNA Founder and former RARE Program Manager, Gwendolyn Hubbard Lewis, agreed. First thanking the many community stakeholders for their support over the years, she said, “Robert was a model student in the RARE program and is a worthy recipient of this first scholarship.”

This award is limited to high school juniors or seniors, committed to attending college and hail from the RARE Program. Page One Foundation is working with other nonprofits around the country offering similar awards to deserving high school students.

Bernie Marable of Premier Consultants in Washington DC, a longtime supporter of CCNA and other youth leadership programs, is excited about the national impact these scholarships will bring. “This is an excellent return on investment,” he said.

Felicia Tolliver-Johnson, Hammond RARE Program Manager, nominated Clark for the award. “He is a great young man with unlimited potential. Hopefully this award will make a difference in his life.”

Page One Foundation Co Founder, Kevin Paige, lives in Houston. Learning that Robert plans to apply to attend the University of Houston, he congratulated him and offered: “Just let me know when you want to come for a campus visit. We are pleased to host you.”

With his trademark broad smile, Robert gave a thumbs up, saying thanks to all.
