Former Congresswoman

Sworn into office January 1969. She was the first African American woman elected to Congress; the first to serve as Secretary of the Democratic Caucus and the first to run for President of the United States.

Ferdinand T. Day
1918-2015

He was the first African American chairman of a public-school board in Virginia. In 1985, he was selected by the Secretary of Education to assist in the further implementation of the Virginia desegregation plan for higher education. In 2009, he helped found the Concerned Citizens Network of Alexandria (CCNA).

Hank Aaron
1934 – 2021

Aaron is regarded as one of the greatest baseball players of all time. His 755 career home runs broke the long-standing record by Babe Ruth.  In 1999, The Sporting News ranked him fifth of its list of the “100 Greatest Baseball Players“.  In 1982, he was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Madam Vice President

Prior to becoming the first woman Vice President of the United States, she was us U.S. States Senator representing the state of  California.  She was California’s Attorney General-the first woman of color to hold that office. She also served two terms as San Francisco’s District Attorney.
